Go Green (Tea) with innisfree’s 2019 Eco-Handkerchief Lucky Box

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

After releasing Jeju Orchid Intense Cream Lucky Boxes for the past two years (2018 featured the cutest Snoopy collab), innisfree switched it up this year with its 2019 Eco-Handkerchief Lucky Box. My lucky box is a yellow pouch containing the Green Tea Seed Serum and the 5-Minute Green Tea Leaf Powder Face Mask 70g.

Instead of a paper box that’s going to be thrown away almost immediately, this lucky box comes in an eco-friendly canvas pouch. Its clean, minimal design comes in three colors, with contrast trimming and embroidered characters. I love knowing that I can keep using this handy bag long after I’ve emptied the products inside.

Moving on to the products, each box comes with a special edition version of the cult fave Green Tea Seed Serum. Not only is the special edition adorned with the same funky graphic as the pouch, it also contains double the amount of product – a major steal! In addition, you get one more green tea product that’s randomly chosen from four options: Green Tea Seed Skin 200ml, 5-Minute Green Tea Leaf Powder Face Mask 70g, 5-Minute Green Tea Leaf Powder Face Mask 3.5g x 4pcs, and Green Tea Sleeping Mask 80ml.

Green Tea Seed Serum

This highly concentrated, antioxidant-rich serum is innisfree’s global No. 1 bestseller for good reason. Formulated with a blend of Jeju green tea extracts and green tea seed oil, as well as 16 kinds of amino acids, it delivers moisture and nutrition and restores clarity and suppleness. The serum has been proven to make skin feel less tight and dry immediately after use, and to create smoother skin with a dewy, radiant glow after a week of continued use.

Off the bat, I was surprised by how thin, watery and lightweight the formula felt. It spreads easily and is quickly absorbed into skin, with a hydrating but non-sticky finish. The serum also has quite a strong fragrance, but it’s very clean, refreshing and lovely to fall asleep to.

The morning after I first applied the product, I noticed that my skin felt more moisturized and nourished, with a firm yet bouncy touch. Even though it’s less hydrating than my usual moisturizer, I actually prefer this serum for overnight use. Its lightweight, non-sticky finish offers a smooth base that helps makeup slide onto my bare skin with ease. Having used the product for roughly a week, I’m happy to report that the serum continues to make my skin feel revitalized and gives it a natural luster that’s apparent even under makeup.

5-Minute Green Tea Leaf Powder Face Mask 70g

Similar to the serum, the powder wash-off mask is enriched with Jeju green tea leaf extract and 16 types of amino acids to hydrate, nourish and soothe dry and tired skin. Its fine powder exfoliates skin and leaves it smoother and brighter.

Having never used a powder mask before, I was super excited to try this one out. Instructions suggest scooping powder to the first line of the included measuring cup and pouring innisfree’s Green Tea Balancing Skin up to the second line, but you can use whatever toner you have on hand. Then, mix and spread evenly over your face. After five minutes, wet your hands and massage gently, rinsing off with lukewarm water. I found that I needed more than the suggested amount of toner to dissolve the powder, but this left me with a lot of leftover mask. I’d suggest scooping out a little less powder than the instructions indicate.

My initial impression was that this powder smells exactly like a steaming hot cup of matcha latte – my favorite! The powder was ultra-fine and greenish-white in the tub, but after mixing it with toner, I was surprised to discover little black specks! These exfoliating particles give the mask a gritty texture that feels earthy and organic, while the creamy pulp spreads smoothly on skin to offer a soothing sensation. True to its name, you really should wash this mask off after five minutes, as it dries and hardens quite quickly. Also remember to wet your hands thoroughly before removing, as its thick, clay-like texture is hard to wash off otherwise.

My skin felt smoother and more hydrated immediately after use. However, the effects were not as dramatic or long-lasting as the serum, as there wasn’t a marked difference to my skin when I woke up. Honestly, my favorite thing about this mask (apart from its scent) is probably how fun it is to prepare. After a tiring day, this simple 5-Minute Mask helps me relax, unwind and get in the mood for some z’s. For those who enjoy indulging in a little me-time through nighttime skin care routines, this is the perfect product to add into the mix.
