Guerlain Has Converted Two Beauty Factories Into Hand-Sanitizer Production Sites
Over the last week, we’ve watched the coronavirus pandemic have a variety of effects on the beauty industry. While some of the popular beauty boutiques, like Sephora, closed their stores and moved shopping exclusively online for the time being, many smaller businesses like salons, spas, and self-employed makeup artists find themselves out of work indefinitely. One of the most heartening responses to the COVID-19 crisis, however, has been the companies that have put their facilities to use to halt their usual production to help provide desperately-needed supplies.
Both L’Oréal and Coty announced that they will be using their manufacturing sites to supply hydroalcoholic gel to those providing medical and emergency services in Europe and North America. Those statements came after LVMH said it would be shifting its fragrance facilities’ output to the in-demand hand-sanitizing substance to give it free of charge to French healthcare providers. LVMH has since said that it would be adding two new production lines at the Givenchy and Guerlain factories, and now, the latter is underway.
“To minimize the spread of COVID-19, Guerlain is proud to do their part in this global effort. As of this week, they converted their La Ruche fragrance makeup and skincare factory and Orphin fragrance factory into hand sanitizer production sites,” a statement from the brand reads. “This hand sanitizer is not for sale. Rather, it is freely being shared with French healthcare workers and hospitals. Guerlain hope this small act can protect the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff caring for others on the front line of this pandemic.”
Guerlain is known for beauty products like its Terracota Bronzing Powder and Abeille Royale Mattifying Day Cream, and of course for fragrances like Shalimar and Mon Guerlain. And now, it will also be known for making an important difference in how we push back against this life-altering pandemic.
